I am sorely in need of an immense variety of assistance.
Not very much time has passed since I founded SLS. Though the general
goals and the current projects described above are coming along, the demands
of family and day-job mean that progress is slow. A detail-oriented approach
to governmental approval (especially regarding the FDA, for example) is
crucial to the success of this industry.
Beyond this, help from all kinds of folks would be wonderful. I need a
funding angel; attorneys and accountants to help me finish establishing
my business; researchers to gather and apply information already compiled
on this subject; nutritionists and food chemists to help provide context
regarding how specific insect-based foods compare with other sources of
nutrition; chefs and cooks and bakers to lend their talents in the food
preparation; journalists, film-makers, and possibly others to document
the work; marketing gods in the mood for a challenge; pest control people
with open minds regarding insect control; entomological clubs and societies
interested in helping to gather the insects themselves; native and/or
indigenous people with expertise and willingness to share traditional
food practices; anyone with some extra fish tanks and space and willingness
to start an insect farm; and anyone with overseas connections [particularly,
but not necessarily, in the food and/or transportation industries] who
could help expedite the acquisition of processed edible insects.
Indeed anyone interested in contributing to this brave new world of ecologically-sound
and culturally-significant food production should feel free to step forward.
There is much to be done.
